You may have heard that in October this year, voters will elect new councillors across the state.
Over the coming months, three Greens candidates will be mounting a strong, people-powered campaign to break into Boroondara Council. If successful, they will be a strong voice in local government, advocating for the things we all want to see.
Harry Hook has been a council volunteer for more than four years and knows the importance of local government in making liveable communities. He wants to expand environment programs and ensure services are accessible to everyone. Harry is standing in Lynden Ward (Camberwell/Glen Iris).
Simone Costa, standing in Glenferrie Ward (Hawthorn), is passionate about representing Boroondara’s young people, who make up more than a quarter of the population. She loves the character of the area and is committed to protecting our leafy streets and heritage houses.
Michael Tanner is a sustainability expert, landscape designer/horticulturist and TAFE teacher. He’s a longterm community volunteer and advocate for promoting community participation, and wants to implement sustainable environment and development policies that support local residents, businesses and the community. Michael is standing in Studley Ward (Kew).
But we can’t take these three seats without your help.
We’re running two information sessions to introduce the candidates and what they want to achieve. Come along, meet others just like you, and find out about the many ways you can get involved with the campaign.
Whether you’re new to volunteering, helped in Kooyong or Higgins this year, or a rusted-on veteran, we’re looking forward to building our team and getting some much-needed Green representation on Council.
Will you join us?
