Further details on the training below:

‘Belief, Identity and Inclusion – Understanding Islam’

Understanding Islam is a conversation that is very needed across community as well as the public and private sectors, yet this essential conversation it is not being had widely.  This program provides a safe, respectful and warm opportunity to learn, to reflect and ask questions. The program is facilitated by dynamic, intelligent, experienced facilitators with global experience in the area of Muslim/non-Muslim dialogue in the public and private sectors.  Our facilitators also share first-hand experience of Islam as a faith and what it is to be an Australian Muslim. The program aims at building social understanding, harmony and cohesion and is aimed to support a non-Muslim audience.

Part A: Islam and Muslims - What Muslims believe and where Islam fits in Western culture.

Part one begins by presenting participants with an introductory understanding of Islam and Muslims.  We begin the process of demystifying Islam, look at the facts and statistics in an Australian context, delve into concepts such as who are Muslims and what do Muslims believe?  This is an interactive educational experience where participants are encouraged to take time to reflect, ask questions, to discuss concerns, thoughts and solutions.  This session aims at breaking down barriers in perceptions, address the common stereotypes and the misconceptions held about Muslims.

Part B: Islam in the Modern World - Media, Foreign Policy and Identity

In part two, we advance our discussion beyond the faith of observant Muslims to the present day popular narrative.  We explore the current concerns that have risen to prominence across communities, in the media and political discourse.   In this week, we identify the role media and politics play in forming popular belief and we aim to bridge the “us/them” divide by engendering a deeper level of understanding.  As with part A, participation and dialogue is encouraged and a respectful open discussion is ensured where no question is off limits.

Tim Read for Brunswick Door Knock: Brunswick East

We know that conversations are the most powerful way to connect with voters and ask them to support the Greens on the issues that matter. That's how we're going to win Brunswick this year.

We try to make our events as accessible as possible. We need your help with this, as we may not know what accessible means for you. Please get in contact with our event organiser if you have any feedback on how we can run the most inclusive campaign possible.
