Reducing Harm from Sports Betting

Reducing Harm from Sports Betting

Reducing Harm from Sports Betting

Online sports betting companies are growing fast and creating havoc in the community. It's getting easier and easier for Victorians to lose vast amounts of money.

This is a difficult industry to regulate because it's online and most companies are based overseas, but we can still make changes to minimise harm. The Greens will do this by:

  • banning all online betting agency ads from public spaces and sporting venues
  • ensuring the Victoria Government stands up for the community and works with the Federal Government to ban all broadcast media betting advertising on radio, television and online. That way, our children can watch and enjoy sport without being bombarded with betting ads.

Recently, the Andrews Government passed a tax rate of 8% for online bookmakers, giving them more incentive to advertise in Victoria. This free pass has got to stop.

We want to increase this tax to 15%. This tax would bring in over $400 million in revenue* which could then be spent on important infrastructure like schools, hospitals and public transport.

Will you add your signature and help us protect Victorians from this industry?
