Compost not Landfill

Posted on Campaigns by Jessie Borrelle · October 24, 2019 4:35 PM

We can turn our food waste into compost for our farms, community gardens and parks.

Food and garden waste make up 47% of what’s put in our rubbish bins. But our food waste doesn’t have to go to landfill. The Greens plan in a nutshell:

  • The State Government to fund new bins for every household in Victoria, where you can put both kitchen and garden waste.
  • Set up composting factories across the state to process this food and garden waste, and give it to local farms, parks and gardens.
  • Require all food-based businesses to use compost services for their food scraps.
  • Invest in food rescue programs to help not-for-profits and charities feed even more people facing hard times.

Around 24 local Councils across Victoria have introduced food composting in household green bins - now let’s do it right across Victoria!
